Inspiration and
motivation are essential for any leader. You can have perfect structures,
awesome communication, and loads of emotional intelligence, but they are not
worth much if your group is not inspired and motivated to keep going. What are
some ways you can inspire and motivate?
First, you should
take the time to encourage others. Do not confuse with the coaching - it is
simply the fact to tell people in the group that you believe in them and their
work is valuable to you and the organization. When you encourage this way, you
can also cross the line independently. Sometimes you can encourage a person
telling them that you believe in their ability to make decisions - and allow
them to do so. The encouragement and empowerment go a long way to create an
inspiring atmosphere. Jack Welch famously said that the best way to harness the
power of the people is to "let them go, let go.
With this new found empowerment,
you should try to create energy by other means. For example, you have to know
what motivates people. In community organizations, it may be the motivation to
create a better world, to help people. In your family members might be
motivated by personal factors or simply want to do something, like play soccer
or take ballet. In business situations, you may find that money, praise, or the
promise of progress motivates some people. When you look for motivation, think
of your group and break it down from there. Remember that creating energy is to
focus on the success of others. Many times, the leader of a group is the one
that receives congratulations when things go well - if your group really
contributed to the effort, you should have no problem to give them credit. The
fact that your group is competent will only make your driving more bright. With
empowerment and honor comes responsibility. If someone falls short of a goal,
you need to know why and hold that person accountable. It is a way to teach the
authority of empowerment comes with serious responsibility. We'll talk in a
future coach foundations article on
leadership.
leadership.
Show your investment and commitment of the group. It can be easy to empower them, but what do you do when a person seems to have reached its peak with nowhere to go? It may be time to send them to education or conferences. Think about the possibility of turning people in the group through other areas of responsibility. You, as a leader, must prove that you are committed to success and you're ready to invest in the group to keep. This is probably easier in business situations where there may be a budget for education or rotation. What a community organization? Think of ways you can show the investment in the group where the cost can be a factor. Perhaps the members of the inter- group training in other functions could be a way to show that you appreciate their contribution and that you are willing to do whatever it takes to keep them around . When you get home, take the time and money to the football team or dance class - as long as the responsibility is there, you can prove that you want to see the progress.
The spirit of
inspiration and motivation to continue driving results. One of the best ways to
do this is to set realistic but ambitious goals - which you are already aware
of the capabilities and motivations of the group, so why not give them
something to strive for? Emergency and show results in your player - goals
should always have a tough schedule attached to them. Of course, any movement
forward will almost always run through the challenges and obstacles. You must
show that the momentum must continue in spite of obstacles and challenges. You
can move the road obstacles or challenge the group to find creative ways to get
around the obstacle. Either way, you're inspired the group to continue to move
forward and continue to think. Are targets and timelines applicable outside the
parameters of the business? In most cases, they are. Think about your community
and family involvement and what kind of goals you can set in order to keep
people motivated.
When you inspire and
motivate a group, you will be surprised at the power and loyalty that you
create.
